Therapy for Teens

Being a teenager can be complicated and difficult, especially in this day and age. Pressures in school, social media and friends bring on added stressors that can be difficult to navigate. In addition, it can be taxing on any parent who may have a hard time understanding their teenager. Teens often struggle to communicate their difficulties to their parents, which will bring upon feelings of isolation, frustration, loneliness, and sadness. Adolescents will often experience anxiety, anger, depression, or low self-esteem as a result.

I have worked with adolescents in a variety of different settings, including school systems and universities. I have helped teens struggling in their relationships with themselves, their parents, friends, significant others, or food. I also specialize in helping adolescents overcome anxiety, depression, and sexual identity issues. I will take my teens for a walk, grab a boba or just sit outside and talk. It is amazing what a little bit of fresh air can do.

“And will you succeed? Yes you will indeed! (98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed.)”

– Dr. Seuss

I believe it is important to incorporate parents and/or family members in subsequent sessions in order to help keep everyone on the same page. I work hard to navigate the fine lines of confidentiality while offering enough information to parents so that they do not feel lost or unsure of what is happening in their kids’ treatment. It is important for myself, parents and my client to have an understanding of what is going on and how we are all there to help them through it.

My goal is to help adolescents build a strong and positive foundation of self-esteem and to help develop necessary skills to survive and cope with these added pressures.  More importantly, the goal is to help build and sustain healthy relationships with themselves so that, no matter what they face as adults, they feel confident and proud of who they are.
